Characters have 500 points to spend among their abilities, with a maximum of 80 in any particular skill.
Fighting:
Brawling (Unarmed, Improvised weaponry, knife fighting)
Swashbuckling (Rapier, Saber, Cutlass, Dagger, Crossbow or pistol, dual wield w/dagger): Agility (40 minimum)
Heavy Infantry: (Greatsword or Poleaxe, Pike, Flintlock, Armor): Strength (50 minimum)
Cavalier: (Lance, Choice of Firearm, choose a one handed Melee weapon, Armor): Strength (40 Minimum)
Artillery: Choice of Naval or land artillery, short sword, pistol
Sniper: Crossbow or flintlock, Choice of one hand melee weapon (Sniping is covered in the combat thread)
Every point in one of those trees adds 1 to every relevant skill included. Armor may be purchased with points separately for 25 points.
Physical Attributes:
Strength (base 10): Increases damage
Agility (base 10): Lowers chance of being hit in combat
Swimming (10 points, modified buy agility)
Stamina (determines how long one can fight/run/etc)
Social Skills:
Influence/Persuasion
Willpower (resists Influence, reduces roll penalties from wounds)
Deceive
Perception (detect lies, sense attitudes)
Professional Skills:
Stealth (concealment and sneaking)
Disguise
Observation (detect stealth, disguise, can be PM'd secret details of what can be sensed in posts)
Sailing (needed to be proficient crewman)
Navigation (needed to be a decent captain)
